Charis Village

For many years the Christian community in Central Alberta has been talking about building a faith-based Seniors’ facility that will serve the various needs of people as they age or become less able to care for their own needs.

Since January of 2008 a group of volunteers with a common interest and vision has been meeting to explore the possibility of providing such an “aging in place” facility.

With the aging population and the increase in life expectancy, the need for more housing is becoming increasingly urgent. Keeping this purpose in mind, the local group has developed vision and mission statements that reflect our Christian principles and will guide our future goals and plans. To assist in the unfolding of the vision for Charis Village, the group has incorporated a Foundation that seeks to raise charitable gifts. We are currently investigating various properties that might be suitable for such a facility.

Our group is focusing its efforts on creating a“village of care” to address the need for senior housing from a very specific and deliberate Christian context, much along the lines of ElimVillage in Surrey, B.C. (www.elimvillage.ca)
