How can I help at the senior community of Charis Village?

To advance the plans for developing a Christian seniors village in Central Alberta, located in Lacombe, the Foundation is seeking to raise the necessary capital to implement its desired vision.

We are excited and hopeful that the Christian community will embrace this project as we will need the support of many to make this vision a reality. As a Board, we feel strongly that the Lord is guiding us and we ask for your prayers as we continue to move forward.

Charis Village Board of Directors

Tyler Guppy

Tyler Guppy joined the Charis Village Board in 2022 and brings more than 25 years of business and leadership experience as a business owner and operator, complemented by service on several boards and councils. A Professional Engineer with a Master of Business Administration, he offers expertise in project management, financial accounting, business operations, and regulatory compliance. Tyler is inspired by Charis Village’s vision of an aging-in-place community anchored in grace.

Merle Jacobson

Merle Jacobson joined the Charis Village Board in 2018 and contributes significant executive leadership, financial, and business expertise. A Chartered Professional Accountant, business partner and controller, former Crown corporation Chief Operating Officer, and former farmer, his background spans organizational leadership, financial oversight, strategic planning, operations. Merle is committed to using his experience to strengthen communities and add meaningful value to people’s lives.

Dr. Ron Keller

Dr. Ron Keller joined the Charis Village Board in 2026. A rural family physician with 45 years of experience, including 35 years in Lacombe, his background encompasses seniors care, medical leadership, and education, along with church leadership and international medical service. Ron is passionate about helping seniors age with dignity and security, surrounded by strong community and compassionate, qualified care.

Judy Letain

Judy Letain joined the Charis Village Board in 2025 and brings over 35 years of business, executive leadership, and governance experience, including roles as a CEO and financial advisor. Her background spans organizational leadership and culture, global regulatory and compliance oversight, and numerous corporate and community boards. Her education in social work and ministry complements her passion for fostering purpose, dignity, and meaningful community.

Pauline Prins

A founding member of the Charis Village Board in 2009, Pauline Prins offers a diverse background in agriculture, healthcare, governance, and community leadership. A lifelong farmer and rancher, she also served as a Registered Nurse in acute and long-term care. Pauline has contributed to provincial, community, and international boards and committees, including development and audit work in Africa and Asia.

Wim Schakel

Wim Schakel joined the Charis Village Board in 2014 and brings 41 years of experience building and operating a successful dairy farm, developing strong skills in leadership, construction, and practical problem-solving. His community involvement includes service on church, school, and thrift store boards. Known for his determination and ability to see projects through, Wim continues to contribute his practical experience and skills to the growth and development of Charis Village.

Martin vandePol

Martin vandePol joined the Charis Village Board in 2025 and contributes valuable experience in business leadership, governance, construction, and long-term planning. As a business owner with significant board and committee experience, he served seven years on a school board, including five as Chair, and has helped lead numerous school, church, and agricultural building projects. Martin is passionate about helping seniors remain in the community they love, supported by compassionate care, faith, and belonging.

Lennard Vanderschee

Lennard Vanderschee joined the Charis Village Board in 2022 and draws on 40 years of business ownership and agricultural experience. A retired hog farmer, he has served on school boards, church council, and as a director of Western Hog Exchange. Lennard values community service and enjoys contributing his experience to organizations that strengthen the communities they serve.

Steven Wildeboer

Steven Wildeboer joined the Charis Village Board in 2024 and offers a wealth of experience in business leadership, finance, governance, and people development. His background includes senior leadership in the agricultural equipment industry, municipal council, and service on numerous boards and foundations. With a degree in Agricultural Business Management, Steven is passionate about Charis Village’s vision to create a community where people are valued, respected, and supported as they age.

Peter Zuidhof

A founding member of the Charis Village Board in 2009, Peter Zuidhof brings extensive experience in business leadership, financial stewardship, and governance, including leadership with independent schools and church council. A successful agricultural businessman, he values innovation, research, and new ideas. Peter has played an integral role in the visioning, fundraising, development, and operation of Charis Village and is passionate about creating a community where seniors belong and age with grace.
